Last February, I bought a full set of Rev’It gear: Zero H2O gloves, Apache Boots, Cayenne Pro jacket (with the back protector) and pants. See catalog for details.
After over 8 months of testing, during which I’ve ridden in Arizona in March (for desert’s heat and chilly mornings), in Tyrol in June (hot-wet stormy weather) and in Dublin for my daily commute, I am confident I have wear it enough to give an overview of the gear.
-The gloves performed just as expected, they are really waterproof and warm.
-The boots are great in cold and warm weather with the appropriate socks and they are completely waterproof. Most important, they are great to walk if you need to, stroll in a museum, get on a muddy track to get a nice photo of the landscape.
-The Cayenne Pro pants: I was expecting it to be waterproof with the Hydratex layer but, even if it is better than any gear I had so far, it will still fail in heavy rain at the crotch area and will leak after a while. Once you know it, you will be prepared.
-The Cayenne Pro jacket: I really like the jacket, you can really use it all year, in all kind of weather and temperatures. I have used it with all the vents opened in the heat or in very cold weather with the 2 layers. There are a couple of things that could be improved though, maybe for Rev’It’s to-do-list for the next version:
- The collar hook is a great idea but mine didn’t last long, as you will see on the photo below, it is going to break soon. It should be made from a stronger material.
- The zippers on the front pockets are not easy to open/close with gloves. I had to knot little pieces of string (see photo below). All the pockets’ zippers should extra tab like on the vents’ zippers.
- The end of the cuffs on the waterproof liner didn’t hold and would need to be stitched up.
- Abrasion had cause some of the external layer to disappear on the inside of the jacket on at the bottom of the waterproof liner.
Overall, I am very happy with the Rev’It gear and I would certainly buy again from them. The Infinity one-piece suit is certainly tempting!
